From War to Hope: A Story of Resilience & Innovation
When war forced Katerina Hayes to relocate her mother, cousin, and young nephew to Glasgow in 2022, she faced the harsh reality of displacement firsthand. While building her own food startup, she watched as her sister chose to remain in Ukraine—living in a warzone to this day. Unable to contribute financially, Katerina discovered her true superpower: turning crisis into opportunity.
Driven by the urgent need to help women refugees rebuild their lives, she founded SettleX Community Interest Company (Kvitka CIC)—a lifeline for those fleeing conflict. Partnering with Firstport, tech innovators, and private donors, SettleX initially provided UK-certified beauty qualifications and employment pathways, helping displaced women regain independence. Six graduates gained accredited skills, and over 20+ people secured jobs through partnerships with Naked Kimchi & Co, Bread Meets Bread, and Bazko Beauty Studio and partners.
2025 & Beyond: Scaling Hope Through Tech & Education
Today, SettleX relaunches as an impact-driven EdTech organisation, empowering women affected by global displacement with coaching, entrepreneurship, and digital skills. Certified by the European Coaching Federation & CPD , our programs equip women refugees with freelance-ready expertise in:
